Fly Tying Night

In January our chapter, along with the UW Stevens Point Fly Fishing Club, participated in a flytying evening at Fall Line Outfitters Company in Stevens Point. The room was packed with 28 people tying trout and musky flies. Monica Trzebiatowski of the Worth Company started the evening with a presentation on the history of the Worth Company and how at one time it employed 200 women who tied flies. Worth Company along with others tied millions of flies each year in Stevens Point and in the 1930’s it was known as the flytying capital of the world. Ryan Koehnlein of the UW Stevens Point Fly Fishing Club gave a presentation on equipment and materials for the novice fly tier. Beginners were taught to tie ant and beetle patterns. Special thanks to Craig Cook of Fall Line Outfitters Co. for hosting the event and for providing the great food and beverages.

Join us and the UW-Stevens Point Fly fishing Club at Fall Line Outfitters Company (1336 Strongs Ave. Stevens Point, WI) on Thursday January 30th from 5:00-7:00 PM. The University of Wisconsin Stevens Point Fly Fishing Club will hold a instructional presentation on what equipment is needed, what each piece of equipment does and how to ty a few basic flies. Open tying will also be going on. Bring your equipment, purchase material from the shop or just come hang out and see how this past time is done. 5-7 with presentation beginning at 6.

Our next chapter meeting will be on Thursday, April 11th at 7:00 PM at PJ’s Restaurant at SentryWorld in Stevens Point.  Following our meeting, Tim Parks, Fisheries Biologist for Portage County, will give a presentation on the status of the Tomorrow River.  Bring a friend!  Everyone welcome!

“The Tomorrow River, located in eastern Portage County, contains populations of naturally reproducing brook and brown trout that represents a significant coldwater resource in Central Wisconsin.  The trout populations we see today are largely the result numerous factors such as current and historical habitat conditions, environmental degradation, the connectivity of habitats, and angler harvest dynamics.  Because of the value and importance of this coldwater resource, the DNR has closely monitored Tomorrow River over the last 30 years to better understand the status of these brook and brown trout populations.”

March Meeting

Our speaker for the March meeting will be Dan Baumann of the Wisconsin DNR.  Dan is a secretary’s director for 19 counties in west central Wisconsin.  Dan will be giving us an update on the Little Plover River Project.  Program is on Thursday, March 14th at 7:00 PM at PJ’s Restaurant at SentryWorld in Stevens Point.  Everyone is welcome.

In 2017, the Little Plover River Watershed Enhancement Project (LPRWEP) team  was formed. Participating entities include the Village of Plover, conservation, engineering, and agricultural organizations, Portage County, WDNR, and UWSP. This partnership is working to explore, plan, and implement voluntary restoration and management actions aimed at addressing Little Plover River habitat, water, and watershed issues. This evening’s presentation will discuss LPRWEP’s vision and goals, its science-based planning efforts, community outreach, and implementation of projects to help restore the health of the river and watershed. Come on out and learn about how you can become involved in this long-term effort to help bring on-the-ground action aimed at helping restore and care for this important watershed

Have been a member for some time and just moved into Plover which means I could attend meetings. However, the calendar on the web page I have is for 2017 so I missed you by a day. Could you let me know when your meetings are? Would appreciate it.
